Journey Through the Clouds of Shufu Miyamoto’s Art Prints
June 2, 2017 | Art, Woodblock Prints
Clouds are often used in Japanese painting to obscure or highlight a subject, but here they are the star of the show.
The brilliance of Shufu Miyamoto’s woodblock print is that, although the Eastern Clouds are the subject of the image, they are almost indiscernible as distinct objects. Instead, Miyamoto describes their hazy effect on a picturesque mountain scene hidden in the Japanese Alps.
