Whet Your Appetite with Yumiko Utsu’s Portraits
June 20, 2017 | Art, Women Artists
Yumiko Utsu’s comestible portraits will change the way you look at both art and food!
A tradition has grown up in modern Japanese art to subvert serious topics with manga-style cartoon imagery. Utsu, however, achieves the same aims using naturalistic portrayals of food stuffs to invert expectations. By using edible materials she forces the viewer to bring their entire visceral being to the work.
